Grazing Services with goats on the go ® Green bay

Got Weeds? Get Goats.

Our grazing herds provide entertaining, engaging, and effective vegetation management for environmentally-conscious landowners in  Brown, Outagamie, and parts of Calumet and Manitowoc counties in Wisconsin; including Green Bay, Two Rivers, Appleton, and De Pere. Sometimes we venture a little farther, just email stephanie@gloriousgoatranch.com and ask!

Our service aims to manage invasive plants and overgrowth in a conservation-minded way with goats doing the work they love; eating!

What is this exactly?

In a nutshell - we use herds of goats to do weed-eating and brush clearing that would require many humans many hours to complete.  They can handle tricky terrain and noxious weeds that people would have trouble with - and they enjoy every minute.

Goats go where people can't, eat what most animals won't, and leave behind nothing but fertilizer.

Why goats?

Goats eat many of the plant species we consider "weeds" or nuisances, including invasive species (buckthorn, anyone?). For them, it's delicious and nutritious! They can access areas too steep for mowing or weed-eating or where it is unwise to employ fire or herbicides.  And they enjoy it much more than humans would!

What do goats eat?

Almost anything green from ground level to about 5' or 6' high.  Favorites include:  buckthorn, garlic mustard, poison ivy, invasive honeysuckle, thorny locust, sericea lespedeza, giant ragweed, multiflora rose, autumn olive, wild parsnip, thistle, raspberry, blackberry, mulberry, vetch and more.

Goats also eat grass, but if the above plants and other brush and weeds are available grass will make up a relatively small portion of their diets.

Does it grow back?

Eventually, yes, just as it would following mowing, spraying, or burning.  Clients report noticeably less brush and weed density a year after initial grazing.  A single grazing pass will severely reduce the visual density of brush and will force plants to draw on reserves to regrow.  Multiple passes will stress plants to the point they cannot recover, and will keep new plants from sprouting.

What does it cost?

Because each site differs in vegetation density and complexity, it's difficult to provide a hard and fast dollar figure. Prices vary by project, though with some basic information (rough size, location, and description) we can easily provide a ballpark range.  We provide firm prices after a (free) site visit.

Outreach opportunities

Goats are truly a vegetation solution people get excited about. Beyond goats grazing, we're happy to help with PR and outreach. Perhaps a conservation field trip for a local school or service club,  goat meet 'n greets, and other events. The opportunities are endless.
